Female and male innovators in fields from social justice to personal health will gather for a daylong series of conversations about women. Paley Center president Pat Mitchell kicks off the four-part event by talking about overcoming adversity with television icon Barbara Walters, activist Jill Iscol, author Rachel Simmons (Odd Girl Out: The Hidden Culture of Aggression in Girls). The day continues with a foray into women’s health and wellbeing hosted by actor and fitness guru Jane Fonda and featuring renowned feminist Gloria Steinem. Actor Jennifer Siebel Newsom (Something’s Gotta Give) and journalist Lisa Ling sit on a closing panel that examines future opportunities for women in realms such as business, the arts and science. If you can’t snag one of the coveted tickets, you can watch a live stream of selected discussions at one of several satellite venues or on the web. “Redefining Better” is the theme of this Kings County affair, which brings together the borough’s brightest brains. Seemingly omnipresent comedian Eugene Mirman will host the wide-ranging event, with a lineup of presenters including Etsy CEO Chad Dickerson, Vimeo vice president Blake Whitman, Habana Outpost founder Sean Meenan, MoCADA executive director Laurie Cumbo, MeanRed Productions founder Jen Lyon and Transportation Alternatives executive director Paul Steely White. These tastemakers and progressive thinkers will examine ways to invigorate and improve their respective fields, the Brooklyn community and maybe even the entire globe.
